Dayshift
The comedy-drama THE DAY SHIFT, one of the most successful TV show ever to premiere in icelandic television.
THE DAY SHIFT Sagafilm presents the comedy-drama THE DAY SHIFT directed by Ragnar Bragason. Written by Ragnar Bragason, Jóhann Ævar Grímsson and the main cast, this 11 part TV series is a sequel to the massive hit THE NIGHT SHIFT which at the 2007 Edda Awards received awards for Best Television Show and an audience award as the Most Popular Television Show. In THE DAY SHIFT we continue our journey of eccentric behaviour with the hilarious and tragic trio of the over-educated communist GEORG (Jón Gnarr), his underling OLAFUR RAGNAR (Pétur Jóhann Sigfússon) and the depressed DANÍEL (Jörundur Ragnarsson) as they search for greener summer pastures at a remote hotel in the Icelandic countryside. There they are subjected to the tyranny of the liquor guzzling, gun swinging former female champion javelin thrower and current hotel manager, GUGGA (Ólafía Hrönn Jónsdóttir). With hints of Greek tragedies and a nod to Shakespeare's King Lear -dealing with issues ranging from sexuality, oppression and guilt – THE DAY SHIFT broke barriers in Icelandic television history and went on to receive an Edda Award (The Icelandic Film and Television Academy) for Best Television show. The series was shot on HD format in the spring of 2008 and premiered in the fall of 2008 on Iceland’s channel 2 to record audience numbers.
